Covid19 Tents

Since March of last year the world has been turned upside down and we all in the tent rental business are not immune to this upheaval. Some of my peers have gone out of business due to the lack of demand for party tents. We have had to be resourceful to keep trading. What we have been doing in the way of rentals was pretty much linked to covid19 tents. Basically, as all indoor gatherings were either banned for a long period or highly not recommended, people have moved outdoors. Hence covid19 tents. Thankfully, Floridas weather allows for that most of the year.

Covid19 tents are not tents for people with the virus, but more of a way to hold outdoor gatherings to try to avoid catching it, or reducing the probability of spreading (if they don’t know that they have it already / asymptomatic). People generally ask for a larger tent than would have been needed pre-pandemic to allow for greater spacing inside them. Covid19 tents are also used by restauranteurs, small private outdoor events, intimate weddings and such like.

Now, that may sound that we are doing a roaring trade because of this, but, truth be told, we are not. Many cities have cancelled permits for festivals and other such large events. Many big event organizers also took the decision to not stage their annual shows. The kind of occasions where we would have installed our larger tents plus numerous smaller ones too. That was the mainstay of our business. While their decisions are correct as they didn’t want to spend a lot of money for a reduction in both attendees and income, they also didn’t want to risk hosting a super spreader event.

Due to the pandemic, we have had to rethink how to approach this new non-normality while hoping and waiting for the new-normal to take shape. In the meantime we have been relatively busy with smaller residential style events, small corporate or business occasions. This change in our business model has contributed to keeping us going. Perhaps even a direction which will become more of a bedrock for our future. As and when the bigger events creep back into our daily lives, we will be ready for that but we may find that we no longer rely on mostly commercial orientated business as our mainstay. Covid19 tents might be around for quite a while yet.
