Science Festival in St. Pete
We have been ever so busy recently, especially with the Science Festival in St. Pete. It was a big logistical exercise, 35+ tents of various dimensions, seating and tables. Some stakes stakes, others weighted, all spread over a large area and no direct access with our delivery vehicles. Everything had to be loaded onto small trailers and towed around with ATV’s (on pathways) without going onto the grass. Furthermore we had only a small window of time to install all the tents and then an even smaller timescale to remove them all. We needed a big crew to be able to achieve the set up and tear down schedule. A 14 hour day on the last set up day available to us saw us meet the deadline with sufficient time to spare.
20,000 visitors
It was a great spectacle to see all of the tents up and in pristine condition. Once we had finished, the Science Festival was ready for the exhibitors to move in early the following morning. As expected, some 20,000 visitors descended on USFSP’s campus grounds during the next two days. By all accounts it was a great success and everyone was very, very pleased with the whole event.
If, putting up 35 tents in a couple of days wasn’t enough, we actually had other bookings for tents in other locations to install and take down during the Science Festival event. It certainly was a logistical challenge to be able to fit everything in. In total during that 5 day period we actually set up over 40 tents of various sizes and, one in particular, in a difficult location where everything needed to be carried to the site by hand. A 1,600 sq ft tent does need a lot of material for the installation. Oh, and it had to be installed over palm trees! More on that another time.
